Global negotiations on a legally binding plastics treaty continue, but businesses cannot afford to wait for policy alone to solve the plastic waste challenge.

The absence of a final agreement highlights the complexity of tackling plastic pollution at a global level. While governments debate production limits, waste management responsibilities and circular economy frameworks, plastic waste volumes continue to grow.
The reality is that regulation alone cannot solve the problem. Brands, manufacturers and policymakers increasingly recognise that better material design must complement better infrastructure. The future will require a combination of reduction, reuse, recycling and technologies that improve end-of-life outcomes when materials escape recovery systems.
The plastic waste challenge is moving faster than regulation, accelerating demand for scalable material innovation.
